‘
Our very warm greetings to the clergy and congregation of St John’s
Cathedral; to the wonderful members and supporters of the World Peace Flame
Foundation; and most of all to the people of Norway.
The pain that we share with you today is a familial pain. Although we live
so very far away, on the southern tip of Africa, our countries share close
bonds from the days of the anti-apartheid struggle.
We know that no matter the colour of our skins, the languages we speak,
where we come from or where we worship, we are all members of one family,
God’s family – and no number of extremist’s bullets can deny that fact.
Extremism knows no national, cultural or religious bounds. The ghastly
events in Norway tell us: We must do more to close the space for prejudice
and intolerance, we must do more to foster broadmindedness, acceptance of
one another and love.
Our deepest condolences go to the families, relatives and friends of the
victims of the attacks on Saturday, and to all Norwegians.
God bless you!
